On Saturday, August 12, 2020, 1.75 lakh houses built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) were inaugurated in Madhya Pradesh through video conferencing by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Prime Minister Modi spoke to the people of Dhar, Singrauli, and Gwalior who were benefitted under this scheme.
During this program, PM Modi said that the objective of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is not only to build houses but to empower the poor. Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme, the beneficiaries will get the benefit of additional toilets and electricity.
PM Awas Yojana was started in the year 2015, but later on 20 November 2016, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) was started under this scheme.
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G) was earlier known as Indira Awaas Yojana but was renamed in March 2016. The goal of this scheme is to provide houses at affordable prices to the entire rural India of Delhi and Chandigarh.

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G)
Under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G), a 100% grant of Rs 1.20 lakh will be given to each beneficiary.
In this, the central and state government will provide financial assistance in the ratio of 60:40. For all the houses constructed under PMAY-G Scheme, the money will be directly deposited in the bank account of the beneficiaries in 4 installments.
Under the PMAY-G scheme, a target has been set to build 2.95 crore houses by the year 2022.
The beneficiaries of the PMAY-G scheme will be identified according to the data available from the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC). The following people will be included in this scheme –
- Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
- Minorities coming to Non-SC / ST and BPL.
- Independent bonded labor.
- Families and widows of paramilitary forces, ex-servicemen, and persons under the retirement scheme are included.
How to apply Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin)
It is a women empowerment scheme. Under the PMAY-G scheme, 67% of the houses will be released in the name of the woman or the name of both husband and wife.
The government has also created a mobile app for the villagers. You can download this app from Google Play.

- You will get an OTP.
- Login with OTP and enter the required details.
